The original Lollipop Chainsaw launched back in 2012 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, with publishing assistance from Kadokawa Games and Warner Bros. Interactive. It was notable for the involvement of No More Heroes creator Goichi “Suda51” Suda and filmmaker James Gunn, who directed Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy films and Warner Bros. The Suicide Squad.

Yoshimi Yasuda will be act as producer for the remake and explained the situation surrounding the project in a statement.

Check it out below. It is in English and Japanese.

According to Yasuda’s message and Dragami Games’ other tweets, the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will be developed by a “combination of development staff from the original version, including [Yoshimi Yasuda], and development staff from Dragami Games”. Dragami Games began operations on July 1, 2022, and absorbed about 30 of Kadokawa Games titles, taking control of several Kadokawa IPs. These include the Demon Gaze series, Natural Doctrine, God Wars, Relayerand the Root Letter (√Letter) titles. Dragami will have support from Warner Bros. in the effort to remake the game.

The game won’t be a simple rerelease, though. Yasuda assured fans that “even though the original staff are working on the remake, there will be elements that will be different from the original.” One example cited was the soundtrack. Yasuda explained that while the original Lollipop Chainsaw had 15 licensed songs in its musical selection, these would be difficult to make use of in the remake. Thus the soundtrack will consist of new music. Additionally, the team may aim for a different graphical style, owing to the higher specifications of current-generation consoles.

The Lollipop Chainsaw remake is in development and targeted for a 2023 release. The original game is difficult to acquire new, but can still be played on Xbox 360 and PS3.
