Illustrator Rin ☆ Yuu designed the outfit for Miku. From the pictures, the dress is not as ornate or elaborate as some lolita dresses. It seems to have short puffy white sleeves, a black ribbon, and a red-and-black dress. The hair ornaments in Miku’s hair look like red scrunchies as well. Lolita fashion is a very popular choice of dress for Hatsune Miku and she has appeared in multiple games and music videos wearing them. For example, the Infinity module in Project DIVA games looks like a black lolita dress.

While the word “lolita” in the west has negative connotations due to its association with Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita novel, the word’s meaning is less charged in Japan. One of the ways it’s used without any adult undertones is in the lolita subculture fashion, which draws influence from Victorian and Rococo clothing and styles. It has very little to do with Nabokov’s novel. There are many different substyles of lolita, ranging from the famous gothic lolita to the somewhat more niche qi lolita.

The Hatsune Miku doll will appear in Taito crane games in Japan from early October 2024.
