Furyu’s upcoming 3DS RPG, The Legend of Legacy, has a battle system that revolves around Battle Skills and party formations. The latest set of videos demonstrate its positioning system, and a new feature called Awakening, which can teach you new abilities.
The first video gives us a look at The Legend of Legacy’s “role shuffling” system, where you’ll get to place your party members in different positions as part of set formations. These formations can then be named and registered to switch into whenever you want.
Attack, Support, and Guard are the three positions shown. The guard position is shown being at the very front, as they’ll be the ones tanking monsters, while the attackers and support characters stay close behind.
They then show us what it looks like with the formation they made, to demonstrate how it works out. Positioning is actually an important part of the game, and you’ll need to come up with various combinations as you face new challenges.
The second video shows a little bit of the “Awakening” system. There aren’t too many details on how this feature works, but it gives you a chance of leveling up the power of your Battle Skill, or even learning complete new ones right on the spot.
The Legend of Legacy will release in Japan on January 22, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS. The game is being developed by a team of former Square developers, a number of which have worked on the SaGa franchise and other Square RPGs.
