Plants vs. Zombies composer, game developer, and independent musician Laura Shigihara has released a trailer for her upcoming story-based adventure Rakuen, which will be coming to PC.

The trailer shows off Rakuen in motion for the first time, flaunting its range of delightfully fantastical characters, a slight insight into the game’s story, and Shigihara’s lovely soundtrack.

Rakuen was announced last year and is the work of Shigihara and artists Emmy Toyonaga and Matt Holmberg. It’s an adventure game with no battling, but structurally, is said to be a mix of Maniac Mansion, To the Moon, and The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past.

The game is about a young boy who resides in a hospital where his mother reads him a storybook about a tribal child living in a fantasy world called “Morizora’s Forest.” The child in the story wakes up to find that his tribe has sailed to a paradise called “Rakuen”, and so tries to find a way to reunite with them.

The boy in the hospital wishes to recreate the child’s journey and so, along with his mother, ventures around the hospital meeting the other patients, and learning about empathy, hope, and legacy.

As you follow the boy, you solve puzzles, mysteries, and other secrets. You can also come across ways to improve the quality of the hospital as you learn about the patients’ struggles and lives.

There’s more information about Rakuen available on its website.
