Nihon Falcom revealed more details regarding the battle system for The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine. Kuro no Kiseki will have a battle system that lets players toggle between action and command-based battles at any time. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089!]
In the Action mode, the player can press the O (Circle) button to attack, â–¡ (Square) to deploy Shards, X (Cross) to launch evasive maneuvers like stepping and backflipping, and â–³ (Triangle) to open a menu. Other party characters will act on their own, although the player can simply press L1 to change the character to control manually.
The usual command-based battle system will inherit the peculiar elements of the AT Battles from prior titles. The characters’ movement order will be shown by a visible gauge. When a party character gets their turn, the player will be able to move them anywhere within the battle area.
More actions like defense, Crafts, and Arts (the latter having its effect range system renewed) will also be available through action buttons and command choices. Nihon Falcom will add more new gameplay mechanics like Boost and SCLM Chain, while still retaining existing features like Combat Link and S-Break.
Outside of battles, the player can press R1 to move faster on the field and R3 to target an enemy. A battle will not trigger if the player does not have a target, even when they move closer towards the enemy.
The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki is currently under development with a release window of 2021. Nihon Falcom will reveal more details about the game, including its main characters, at the company’s 40th-anniversary stream on March 9, 2021.
