Here is Konami’s announcement, which referenced how the game was first unveiled at E3 2018.

As of today, we have decided to discontinue development on “Hyper Sports R" for the Nintendo Switch. The team had been continually working on the game since its initial reveal in June 2018. However, after much consideration, we have decided to cancel its development due to various circumstances.

We deeply apologize to all our valued customers who have been patiently anticipating the release of this game for this significant inconvenience.

We hope that you will continually enjoy our products and services.

Hyper Sports R would have been a successor to 1984’s Hyper Sports and 1983’s Track and Field. When it was announced, a campaign with 20 characters and Quick Play mode were confirmed. It also received a trailer at the time showing off events like sprinting, volleyball, and a long jump.

The game was also playable at some events. For example, this V Jump 2018 Tokyo Game Show footage showed some of the events and characters.

Hyper Sports R will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
