After what turned out to be a brief delay, SNK dropped The King of Fighter XV reveal rather abruptly on January 7, 2021. As expected, people got a chance to take a first look at the game and some of its characters. But not only were KOF XV Mai Shiranui, Kyu Kusanagi, Leona, and Shun’ei appearances confirmed, but we’ll see more the week of January 10, 2021 and be playing the game in 2021.
The presentation kicked off right away with some character reveals. We knew from the December 2020 tease that Shun’ei, Kyo, and Benimaru Nikaido would be back, and also that Shun’ei would be the protagonist in this installment. But this offered a first look at the KOF XV Mai, K’, and Leona versions too. Each one had animations that seemed to represent their entrances and attacks.
After the look at the characters, Producer Yasuyuki Oda and Creative Director Eisuke Ogura both appeared to talk about the game. Ogura said, “We’re focusing on keeping the series’ staple of being fast-paced, while also adding elements to make it more exciting.” Ogura also said that when it came to the current phase of development, the team is “brushing up features and optimizing the game.” There will also be an animated video released inspired by the game, with Masami Obari directing it.
Here’s the full KOF XV reveal.
KOF XV will be released in 2021.
