It’s been a while since we heard about The King of Fighters XV. It was officially announced at Evo 2019, but all we saw then was a logo. Now, SNK confirmed we’ll see KOF XV game on January 7, 2021. There’s a whole new trailer that has SNK Producer Yasuyuki Oda and Creative Designer Eisuke Ogura talking about the game and showing its initial character designs. [Thanks, IGN!]
So far, three returning characters are confirmed to reappear. Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido and Shun’ei will all be back. (They all look rather familiar in their initial art.) This is just a preliminary look, though. Oda and Ogura promised more news throughout 2021. Ogura called it “our most ambitious KOF yet” and confirmed that the events in this game will continue the story from KOF XIV.
Expect to see a lot more Shun’ei this time. In the video, they mentioned that he will be the star of KOF XV. This comes after Ogura said SNK and the team wasn’t sure if he was the lead last time. The teams will look different too.
The new logo was also discussed in the trailer. Both Oda and Ogura noted that since people tended to refer to the series and games as KOF, SNK will reflect that in the logo going forward.
The King of Fighters XV is in development.
