Koei Tecmo’s Own Dynasty Warriors Mobile Game Launched in Japan

Koei Tecmo launched a new Dynasty Warriors mobile game in Japan on the evening of March 10, 2021. The game launched roughly a month after pre-registration opened on February 3, 2021. Those who access the game early will be able to obtain Diaochan in her Dynasty Warriors 3 attire. [Thanks, 4Gamer.]

This is the first 3D action Dynasty Warriors game for smartphones. The series’ original development team from Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force handled the development of this game as well. The company previously made a social game titled 1 Million Dynasty Warriors for feature phones in 2011, which was discontinued in 2013. Another Dynasty Warriors action mobile game, Dynasty Warriors: Unleashed, was made by Nexon. Although the Dynasty Warriors 8 based Unleashed ceased to exist in global app stores, it is still active in Japan as of this writing.

Though the game launched with around 60 characters, Omega Force plans to add more characters every week. Eventually, all 94 unique characters as of Dynasty Warriors 9 will be present. Each character has Mystic and Abyss variants with different stats, so the total number of characters will essentially be tripled.

The mobile game’s launch followed through on Koei Tecmo’s financial plans to have it released by the end of the current fiscal year on March 31, 2021. Although the company revealed Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires along with the mobile game at Tokyo Game Show 2020, it delayed Empires as the console game would not make it within the initial release window of early 2021.

The Dynasty Warriors mobile game is now available for Android and iOS devices in Japan. In related news, a live-action movie based on the game series will be available in Chinese theaters in late April 2021.
