Kingdom Hearts series creator Tetsuya Nomura recently talked to Young Jump about his work on the Kingdom Hearts series. As part of the interview, Nomura said that Kingdom Hearts 4 is being made with the intention of eventually ending the series. [Thanks, Young Jump!]
However, Nomura didn’t specify how long it will take for the series to reach its ending after Kingdom Hearts 4. Additionally, Nomura said that, for those who know the ending of Kingdom Hearts 3, the idea was to “reset” the series after that game. Nomura then explained that Kingdom Hearts 4 and the new mobile game Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link are both intended as new beginnings for the series. This was made in order to attract a new audience that might have not been following the series before.
When asking Nomura about the new setting of Quadratum, the developer explained that he intended the modern Shibuya aesthetic to reflect the idea of “unreality within reality.” He also shared some insight on one of the starting lines in the original Kingdom Hearts (“is any of this for real or not?”) Nomura stating that the idea of “unreality within reality” had been there since the start, and they are slowly moving towards reaching the conclusion to it.
Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently in development. There is no information on when the game will release nor which platforms it will appear on.
