Hardly a surprise, but Square Enix were quick to make the announcement: Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance will reach North American and European shores sometime in 2012, and Square provided a couple of extra detail on the game that we hadn’t heard before.
Square Enix say the game will have over 50 Dream Eaters that you will be able to recruit to fight alongside you. A localized version of the new trailer recently shown at the Jump Festa trade show will be released next year as well. In the meantime, you can look up some of the Dream Eaters here.
Series director, Tetsuya Nomura, once again reiterates that the Xehanort saga will soon be coming to an end (although, the story will go on beyond Xehanort after Kingdom Hearts 3).
“With the tenth anniversary of the series on the horizon, the current Kingdom Hearts saga is approaching its climactic conclusion,” Nomura says. “The story of this game will serve as the opening chapter of the final conflict, and, as always, will be full of surprises. In order to best implement this element of surprise and discover new realms of possibility, we have chosen Nintendo 3DS as our platform.”
Nomura also says Dream Drop Distance is an indicator of the series’ future. “With its revolutionary new game system, this title will not only be a bold, exhilarating tale of adventure, but also a first look into the future form of the Kingdom Hearts series.”
