CoroCoro released its Big Survey 2020 results that show Fortnite, Pokemon, Mario, and other favorite game series that kids in Japan voted as the best this year.
CoroCoro usually releases its Big Survey for its anniversary in May, but this year’s results were delayed due to the pandemic. The survey went out back in February 2020. Out of about 60 questions, the one we’re focusing on today is about favorite video game series.
Keep in mind that the readers of CoroCoro are much younger target audience than readers of Shonen manga, so titles like Monster Hunter are never too high on the list.
Here are the top video game series as voted by CoroCoro readers for the Big Survey 2020 in Japan:
Favorite Game Series (2020)
- Fortnite – 20%
- Pokemon – 15%
- Mario – 13%
- Super Smash Bros. – 9%
- Splatoon – 8%
- Minecraft – 8%
- Nyanko Daisensou/The Battle Cats – 8%
- Yo-kai Watch – 7%

Fortnite saw a meteoric rise in popularity to finish at #1 with 20% of the votes. The game rose to the top from #5 last year when it had about 9% of the votes. Pokemon also had 9% of the votes to come #4 last year, but this year it made the jump to #2 with 15% of the votes. We can certainly attribute that to the latest release in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Last year’s top series Super Smash Bros. went from 17% of the votes to 9% to chart at #4.
