In history, a Japanese blacksmith known as Nosada forged Kasen Kanesada in the late Muromachi era. The sword is still intact at present-day and preserved at the Eisei Bunko Museum in Tokyo, Japan.

As a team leader, Kasen Kanesada will command several other Touken Ranbu Musou characters in the same team. In the initial reveal, silhouettes of Tonbokiri and Sengo Muramasa accompanied the first team leader, Mikazuki Munechika.

Touken Ranbu Musou will have 15 playable Swordboys grouped into five teams. However, the distribution will not be even, as the second team will have four characters. Silhouettes of Hyuuga Masamune, Ichigo Hitofuri, and Namazuo Toushirou are seen accompanying Kasen Kanesada in the same team.

Koei Tecmo worked with DMM Games and Nitroplus to establish Touken Ranbu Musou after acknowledging popular demand from the Japanese fanbase. When Famitsu held a poll in 2015 asking which franchise should receive a Musou game adaptation, Touken Ranbu was the most voted game IP.

Touken Ranbu Musou will be available for Nintendo Switch and PC via DMM Game Player in Japan. DMM Games and Koei Tecmo will reveal the third team on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
