Netflix offered another peek at the upcoming Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre anime series, and it features Tomie. The new teaser offers a quick glimpse at a story starring the infamous character who starred in multiple stories and movies.
While the teaser doesn’t specifically note it is a Tomie story, it shows the character and references some bits of lore surrounding her. Namely, we see a very pretty young woman with a beauty mark near her left eye. Photos of her feature eyes or an entire second face on the back or side of her head. (This same element came up in Tomie: Another Face.) The segment ends with Tomie asking two young men, “Hey, guys. I need your help. Will you hear me out?”
This isn’t the first look at Netflix’s Junji Ito Maniac anime. The company also shared the opening for the anime. The theme song for the show will be “Paranoid” by Madkid.
In other news about the mangaka, a new manga collection is headed to Japan. A premium box set will launch on December 7, 2022. It will also include two Tomie volumes from The Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection.
The Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre anime will appear on Netflix on January 19, 2023.
