It Feels Like Honkai: Star Rail Could Tie the Trailblazer to Akivili

There are two especially notable and mysterious figures in Honkai: Star Rail, with both players Caelus and Stelle and the Aeon Akivili being major unknowns. We know precious little about “ourselves” in this game, beyond a connection to Kafka and her Stellaron hunters and a new bond with the Astral Express travelers. Our past? Who knows! Likewise, the Aeon of Trailblaze Akivili is just as mysterious. Where are they? They disappeared! However, with the early Trailblaze Missions and teasing, it almost feels like HoYoVerse is setting them up to be quite closely connected. As I’ve played, it’s made me wonder if the Trailblazer in Honkai: Star Rail could actually be (or be connected to) the Aeon Akivili.

Akivili is an Aeon who’s a bit of a mystery in Honkai: Star Rail. They disappeared. There’s no exact idea what happened to them. We know Aeons can die. Kafka makes that very clear once you get to the Xianzhou Luofu Trailblaze Missionsin Honkai: Star Rail. But even she’s vague about what happened.

However, given how Aeons are often opposed to one another and her and her Stellaron Hunters are against Nanook, there’s the thought that perhaps they side with another Aeon. Perhaps that one is the titular Akivili, who is tied to The Trailblaze path. As such, she and her crew would potentially know what happened to them.

Which brings us to The Trailblazer, our avatar. The fact that they are referred to by that moniker is quite telling. We also know they have a past with Kafka, which is one that can’t remember. If Akivili is the one who travels and trailblazes, much like the Stellaron Hunters and Astral Express members, then perhaps this Aeon traveled alongside followers on their path. Also, given that an accident is what caused their disappearance, that would provide a perfect excuse for Kafka and her crew to potentially possess a vessel for them.

It would also offer an explanation as to why Kafka and Silver Wolf were going for the Stellaron on Herta Space Station. The power of one would be a good way to revive an Aeon, especially one temporarily out of action due to an accident. We already saw the level of growth caused by the one on the Xianzhou Luofu. It would also serve as a means for granting the Trailblazer the power to eventually face Nanook and regain their role as an Aeon.

I also would even say our avatar being Akivili provides an explanation for The Trailblazer being able to walk different Paths. They begin on the Path of Destruction, then gain access to the Preservation after Jarilo-VI. Having the power of an Aeon, especially one known for the Trailblaze Path, would make such adaptability make sense. Also, why else would we even be the one to face Nanook if we aren’t an equally powerful Aeon regaining their status and gathering new “followers” by aiding people on planets unless our Trailblazer is Akivili? Why would we draw Nanook’s gaze in the first boss fight unless we’re also an Aeon?

Finally, we should also consider some of HoYoVerse’s marketing. We know that the players are “The Trailblazer,” and in the “Myriad Celestia: Fables About the Stars Part 1” the narrator tells us, “This is the path you should walk, they say. Akivili. depart once more, Akivili.” So this entity is flat out calling us Akivili, showing us the Astral Express, and telling us to go forth.

It’s probably going to be years before HoYoVerse officially confirms the “identity” of our Trailblazer Caelus or Stelle in Honkai: Star Rail and brings up more about Akivili. There’ll likely be lots of teasing before then. However, it really does feel like there could me some sort of major connection between our avatars and this missing-in-action Aeon.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for PCs and mobile devices, and PS4 and PS5 versions are in development.
