Is There a Limit to Hikari’s Learned Skills in Octopath Traveler 2?

There are certain characters in Octopath Traveler 2 who can pick up extra in-battle attacks and abilities as they go. For example, Agnea might Allure an NPC to get them to fight by her side and add extra effect for her dances. Ochette can capture monsters in-battle, then either use them with the Provoke ability for an attack or turn them into food. In Octopath Traveler 2, Hikari can Challenge NPCs to earn Learned Skills, which might leave someone wondering if there is a limit to the number he can learn. Yes, there is. It’s five.

Here’s how it works. After Hikari’s first chapter or when you recruit him, you’ll find he has one Learned Skill called Hachimonjigiri. As you go around town, you’ll happen upon NPCs. If it is daytime, you can use Challenge to learn their skill if they have one. You can see what this skill is ahead of time, so you can tell if you already own it or want it. This screen will also show how strong the opponent is and if Hikari is at a high enough level to issue the Challenge.

Is There a Limit to Hikari’s Learned Skills in Octopath Traveler 2?

If you do choose to Challenge the NPC, then after you win the fight, you might hit the limit of Learned Skills Hikari can possess in Octopath Traveler 2. If he has, you’ll then be able to choose which of the five he already knows to forget. In-battle, you’ll always have access to the five skills you chose to keep.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.
