Is the Dream Home Trait Worth Picking in Starfield?

The Starfield Dream Home trait automatically unlocks the best house in the game. However, the perk also leaves you drowned in GalBank debt that must be paid off. But is the mortgage on the Moon-based penthouse really that bad? Here is what you need to know to decide whether the Dream Home Trait is worth it or not in Starfield.

Is the Dream Home trait worth it in Starfield?

Although the Starfield Trait “Dream Home” states that you must make weekly payments, that isn’t actually accurate. Instead, GalBank actually wants you to pay off the entire debt in one payment. Like Animal Crossing, though, the game actually lets you save up over time to pay it off. As a result, there isn’t any major penalty or downside to having the $125,000 mortgage.

So, is the Dream Home trait still worth it without a debt penalty? The answer depends on how you decide to play your game. The Starfield House mechanic is honestly more for roleplaying than anything else. If you want a cool place for your character and their romantic partner to live in, then the Dream Home is the best house. Overall, houses don’t actually unlock any new features, and their best utility is their ability to store items, weapons, and armor in them.

Throughout your space journeys, you will quickly find your ship’s Cargo being filled up. So, a home is a good place to store items in Starfield so you aren’t over-encumbered. One negative of the Dream Home is that it’s located on the Moon in the middle of nowhere. It would have been more useful if it was located in a city like New Atlantis, where stores and other features are just around the corner.

The only major downside of the Dream Home Trait is that you are basically using up a Starfield Trait slot that you could have used for something else. But if you don’t find any of the other character creator perks that useful, then you could do a lot worse. Overall, the Dream Home is worth it if you are actually interested in having a home in Starfield, but it’s also not a must-have perk.

Starfield is available now for the Xbox Series X and PC.
