With the release of Tekken 8, players looking to play online may be wondering if the game supports cross platform play. Crossplay between consoles has historically been rare, although more games are beginning to support it, but it is here.
Is there cross platform play in Tekken 8?
The short answer is yes, Tekken 8 has crossplay. Regardless of platform, all players can jump into matches with each other, whether they’re on PlayStation, PC or Xbox.
This was confirmed ahead of the game’s launch by series producer Katsuhiro Harada. In April 2023, he confirmed that he was interested in crossplay during Tekken 7, but wasn’t able to make it work due to disputes between Sony and Microsoft. However, for Tekken 8 this is no longer the case, and so crossplay is available to all players.
This can be seen in the game itself. Each player will have an icon displayed next to their name, marking what system they are on, marked by a generic computer or console icon. Players on PS5 will also see a PlayStation logo next to their own name, as well as those of other PS5 players.
Remember to adjust your netcode too!
Can I turn off cross platform play in Tekken 8?
If any Tekken 8 player is uninterested in playing with people on other systems, the crossplay feature can be turned off. The game will ask first-time players if they wish to turn the feature on during the initial setup, but this can be changed at any time.
On the main menu, select the Options icon at the bottom of the screen. The cross platform play option can be found in Game Option Settings. It can be switched on and off from here. While there is a chance that it may improve the game’s netcode, it will also reduce the amount of players you’ll be able to encounter online.
Tekken 8 is available now for the PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S.
