Sephiroth may be the ultimate villain in Final Fantasy VII, but that doesn’t mean players don’t want to take on the role of most famous SOLDIER, so here’s what you need to know when it comes to getting to play as Sephiroth in FFVII Rebirth.
Can I play as Sephiroth in FFVII Rebirth?
First and foremost, you may already know this, but you can play as Sephiroth in the second part of this remake. This was hinted at in some of the trailers prior to the game’s launch and confirmed in the demo. Players can take control of Sephiroth in battle during the Nibelheim prequel section of the demo.
It is pretty brief, but you get to experience the power of this corrupted hero firsthand. He has his signature long sword, but this doesn’t stop him from unleashing unbelievable speed. He slashes and stabs his victims quite swiftly, which deals a ton of damage on its own. But then you also have his special weapon abilities, such as Zanshin and Hell’s Gate.
How do I unlock Sephiroth in FFVII Rebirth?
Editor’s Note: There are spoilers ahead for the post-game.
One of the most disappointing parts for fans of Sephiroth may be the fact he is only playable during the course of the main story in the Nibelheim section. Outside of that, he doesn’t join the party or anything like that in FFVII Rebirth. However, it is possible to unlock Sephiroth as a playable character outside of the flashback.
To do this, you need to beat the game’s main story entirely and roll credits. After this, the game will let you know you are now able to play as Sephiroth in the combat simulator under certain conditions. To do this, though, you have to complete all of the protorelic salvaging quests across the world. Once done with this lengthy side quest storyline, you’ll be able to play as Sephiroth in his unique combat challenges.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available right now exclusively for the PS5.
