Is FFXIV Cross-Platform?

A huge part of Final Fantasy XIV for many players is the ability to play with friends, whether real-life pals or people they’ve met in-game. But what about those on different platforms? FFXIV does have cross-platform play, but there are some rules. Here’s what you need to know.

Does FFXIV have cross-platform play between PC and consoles?

Yes, FFXIV does have cross-platform functionality so that you can play with friends if they’re on a different platform than you. It even works if they’re on a completely different World and, to some extent, a different Data Center.

To visit another World in your Data Center, head to the Aetheryte in Limsa Lominsa, Ul’dah, or Gridania and select ‘Visit Another World Server’ to initiate travel. Note that while you are in another World, you won’t be able to use the Moogle Delivery Service, Retainers, or Linkshells, and you can’t sell items on the Market Board.

If you’re visiting a friend on another Data Center via the FFXIV main menu, there are even more limitations. Also, note that you can only travel between Data Centers within your Logical Data Center. For example, I can travel to the Aether Data Center from Primal because it’s in my Logical Data Center, but I cannot travel outside of it.

FFXIV also supports cross-progression, so long as you own the game on one of the other platforms it is available on, meaning you’ll need to buy it more than once, along with any expansions you own.

Final Fantasy XIV is available to play now on the PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 and is releasing on the Xbox Series X in Spring 2024. A monthly subscription is required.
