Intelligent Systems Helped Develop The Nintendo 3DS Camera App

You may know Intelligent Systems from their work on the Fire Emblem series or the Paper Mario games, but recently, they helped create something a little different: the Nintendo 3DS Camera application built into the 3DS system.

Nintendo 3DS Camera allows you to snap and save either 2D or 3D pictures using the 3DS cameras. You can add different effects to the pictures you take, or merge the faces of two people together. Intelligent Systems helped develop prototypes for the application that eventually resulted in the final face-merging feature.

This information comes via yet another Iwata Asks interview with the Nintendo 3DS built-in software creation team. The interview also reveals that the Face Raiders app was developed by the team at HAL Laboratory that worked on General Knowledge Training for the Nintendo DS.

Half the staff that developed the Nintendo 3DS’ augmented reality games, in fact, were from HAL Laboratory, Iwata reveals. People familiar with the Nintendo president’s history will know that, prior to taking over the reigns of Nintendo, he was the president of HAL Laboratory, and helped create the original Super Smash Bros.
