In the original Path of Exile, flasks could be combined together to get more charges and stronger effects. In the sequel, however, the system works differently so here’s how to upgrade your Healing and Mana Flasks in Path of Exile 2.
How do Flasks work in Path of Exile 2
Flasks are your way of replenishing your health and mana in Path of Exile 2, but rather than being 1-use consumable potions they hold multiple charges that refill as you slay enemies. The amount of charges and how many are consumed on use is dependent on the quality, rarity, and affixes of the flask as they can drop with modifiers just like other equipment. Unlike the first game you are restricted to only 1 health flask and 1 mana flask, while bonus effects that used to be granted by flasks in PoE are now granted by a seperate equipment piece called charms.
How to get Better Flasks in Path of Exile 2
The way to upgrade your flasks in Path of Exile 2 is a lot simpler but less directly involved. They are still sourced from vendors and drops like other loot, but you cannot upgrade them by combining. This means you’ll need to grind them like other loot, or find them sold by certain vendors like Una in the Clearfell Encampment. Because flasks are such a big upgrade, it’s worthwhile to check through all pages of a vendor’s goods, especially when entering a new area. Additionally, you can use certain upgrade items like Orbs of Transmutation to turn normal flasks into magic or rare flasks, granting them more affixes.
There is also a cauldron (chest) early in Act 1 that contains a medium Life Flask and a medium Mana Flask, which are good upgrades to your starting flasks. You can find this cauldron in the Grelwood area where you’ll be sent to as part of the story, inside a Witch Hut hidden somewhere in the randomized map. It’s one of the only proper buildings nearby, so you should know it when you find it. After leaving the hut be careful as a unique enemy called Areagne, Forgotten Witch will spawn, though if you really don’t want to fight her you aren’t trapped in the area and can run away.
