How to Unlock WoW: The War Within Pathfinder and Steady Flight

When Skyriding was added to WoW, the old style of Steady Flight was made available to switch back to at any time. But if you want to do this in the new zones, you’ll need a certain achievement. To help you unlock this useful option, here’s a guide on how to obtain the Pathfinder Achievement and unlock Steady Flight in WoW: The War Within.

What are Steady Flight and Pathfinder in WoW: The War Within?

Steady Flight is the old style of mounted flying movement in WoW, where you only move when you choose too. This is as opposed to Skyriding, where your mount will glide forward depending on your momentum and pitch. Steady Flight is slower than Skyriding, but it’s also easier to control and this can be useful for gathering materials or exploring the world in detail.

In most other areas of the game, you are able to switch between Skyriding and Steady Flight by simply using a button in your Mount Journal. However, in Khaz Algar zones like the Ringing Deeps or Azj-Kahet, you will need to first unlock The War Within Pathfinder achievement before you can use Steady Flight.

How to obtain the Pathfinder Achievement in WoW: The War Within

Pathfinder achievements vary from expansion to expansion, but in WoW: The War Within it’s quite simple. Firstly, you’ll need to complete the main story campaign in each of the four areas of Khaz Algar: The Isle of Dorn, The Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall, and Azj-Kahet. You will likely accomplish this as you level, as the quests are an excellent source of experience and unlock lots of new features, with finishing the campaign being a requirement for lots of higher level content.

If you haven’t completed the campaign already, you can see what quest you need to do next by opening up you map and checking the top of your quest log. A campaign header will tell you the name of the campaign active in the area you’re in, as well as how many steps are left. If you dont have your current campaign step quest(s) accepted, you can click the campaign header and in the drop-down it will tell you what quest you need and where to find it. Campaign quests are marked by a brown block behind the exclamation symbol to distinguish them from regular quests, and you can find them on the map that way too.

Then you’ll need to earn the achievement for exploring each of the 4 new areas. While this sounds daunting, you’ll again finish most of it by levelling or completing the campaign. Afterwards, you simply need to fly around filling out the rest of your map. Sometimes certain areas of the map can look undiscovered but are actually already known, or an area may not be necessary for the exploration achievement, so if you get stuck the best practice is to track the achievement you are trying to complete and looking just for those specific areas. Get them all, and the achievement and riding style will unlock automatically.
