How to Unlock the FFXIV Island Sanctuary Mountain Hollow Area

Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.5 dropped new content for players, including for the beloved Island Sanctuary area. There is a new location for players to visit in FFXIV Island Sanctuary known as the Mountain Hollow region. This new location offers new materials for players to gather and arguably one of the best grind spots in the game for materials and XP.

How to find and unlock the FFXIV Island Sanctuary Mountain Hollow Area

To find and unlock the FFXIV Island Sanctuary Mountain Hollow region, you want to first progress through the main story of the place until you reach the Delightful Discovery quest. You get this from Felicitous Furball NPC near your base. It will ask you to find the point of interest near the summit of the mountain. You can find this location at X: 26.4, Y: 21.1, and Z: 1.1 on the island.

Interact with the point of interest and then return to the Felicitous Furball. Then you will learn there is a Determined Digger NPC at the point of interest ready to dig up the new area. To do this, though, players will need the following materials to make the Mammet-Sized Spelunking Tools, which requires:

  • 10 Island Palm Log: Southwestern corner of the island by the river.
  • 10 Island Iron Ore: Near the summit of the mountain and Mountain Hollow entrance.
  • Also 10 Island Quart: Also near the summit and Mountain Hollow region.
  • 10 Island Resin: In the southwestern corner of the map heading east along the river.
  • 10 Island Wood Opal: Just north of the Island Resin in the grassy area.

You may already have those items collected since they are quite common. Hand them over when ready and a cutscene will happen, opening the way to the new Island Sanctuary Mountain Hollow region.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PS4, PS5, and PC. It will also release for Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2024.
