World of Warcraft The War Within introduces a ton of new content to the MMO now celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Among it is the ability to play as a brand new race: The Earthen. These dwarf-adjacent automatons have access to multiple classes, and provide another way to play World of Warcraft. However, players will have to put in the work to play as the Earthen; they’re locked behind several requirements. If you’re hoping to leap into the world of Azeroth as this new playable race, keep reading to learn how to unlock the Earthen allied race in WoW The War Within.
Before you can play as the Earthen, you’ll first need to complete The War Within’s campaign. This will take on average about ten to fourteen hours. The good news is: you can complete the other requirements while you’re working through the campaign. The quest chains you’ll need to complete in order to unlock the Earthen are as follows:
- Mourning Rise
- Broken Tools
- Merrix and Steelvein
How to Begin “Mourning Rise” in World of Warcraft The War Within
The start to this quest chain is called “Before I Depart.” You can find it South of the entrance to Dornogal. Leave the city through it’s East entrance, and once you get to the fork in the road, follow the path to the right. Follow the road until you can make another right. Interact with an NPC named Korgran here, and he should offer you the first quest in the “Mourning Rise” quest chain.
You can confirm this by checking the quest rewards for an “Earthen Allied Race” icon. The quest chain is relatively straightforward, so just follow along and soon enough you’ll be ready to take on the next chain. If you’re having trouble finding Korgran, use the map above to guide you.
How to Begin “Broken Tools” in World of Warcraft The War Within
This quest chain begins with “Discarded and Broken” and can be found in the Ringing Deeps. You won’t have to go too far for this one. Head to Gundargaz, the central location of the Ringing Deeps. From the innkeeper, head down the stairs and make a sharp left towards the hot springs (don’t take the stairs.) The first building on your left houses Machinist Kittrin, who will offer you “Discarded and Broken.”
This quest chain is even faster than the last, requiring you to pick up a few items and click on some coals as they spawn. You’ll barely travel past the city limits! Wrap this one up and head onto the next quest chain. If you need help finding Kittrin, the map above should point to his location.
How to Begin “Merrix and Steelvein” in World of Warcraft The War Within
Head back to Dornogal. Make a left from the inn and make another left at the t-shaped intersection after climbing down the stairs. Follow this path, hugging the right side, and take the stairs. Keep following the road, take the stairs up, then take the right-side stairs, and then make a left up another flight of stairs. By now, you should see a quest icon hovering over an NPC named Aldra. She’ll give you the “How Scandalous!” quest.
This is the longest quest chain of the bunch. The first five quests are even easier than the last two chains you had to do, but after turning in “Report to the Councilward” you won’t be given a new quest automatically. Instead, head back to the Dornogal innkeeper. Right outside the inn is Saradi, the Councilward’s Clerk. Saradi will give you the next quest in the chain.
The rest of the quest chain can be completed without much trouble. To complete “Security Through Trade” just back out of the vendor window and re-interact with Bevrusi to complete the quest. In “The Market Reeve of the Forgegrounds,” you can fill in the blanks however you’d like. Keep following the chain, and fight the enemy at the end. Once you’re done with “The Machine Speakeasy,” you’ll be at another dead-end where no quest is given to you. Head back to Dornogal’s inn once again to find a poster tacked to the outside wall. Follow the chain, completed all of Merrix’s quests, and after completing “Bad Business” you will have unlocked the Earthen Allied Race for World of Warcraft The War Within!
All that’s left to do is go to the Orgrimmar Embassy (if you’re Horde) or the Stormwind Embassy (if you’re Alliance), and meet with the ambassador if you haven’t done so already. Enjoy playing as the Earthen! Why not tackle the Season One dungeons? You can also level-up your new Earthen characters with The War Within’s Adventure Mode.
