The Merchant Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio is more of a support class to gain more spoils after battle, though its Almighty skills can be useful against certain enemies as well. Here’s how to obtain Merchant, as well as the more advanced Archetypes in its lineage.
Here’s how to unlock the Merchant Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Merchant: Unlock after completing Brigitta’s request and starting her follower story
- Tycoon: Reach Rank 20 of Merchant and Rank 10 of Commander; reach Rank 8 with Brigitta; 24,000 MAG
Brigitta’s bonuses are really useful in that stores will offer you discounts, as well as a wider range of items to purchase. After you unlock her Supply Crate bonus near the end of her story, she’ll also, on occasion, send you money. Due to this, going to her to level up your relationship with her is useful for reasons outside of the Merchant and Tycoon.
What is the Merchant good for?
Merchant is a unique Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio due to its specialization in critical Almighty damage. Because it uses money to activate rather than the usual HP or MP, you can think of it as a way of preserve your more precious resource of MP when you’re doing long dungeon crawls in the game. Merchant also has lots of passives that focus on how useful items are, as well as improve the chances of getting items after battle.
While there’s no rule stopping you from letting anyone research any Archetype, some characters are better suited for certain classes than others. In Merchant’s case, I found that Heismay in particular fares well in this Archetype. Merchant’s skills work really well in Heismay’s preferred lineage of Thief. Characters who can burn through MP, such as the Protagonist and Eupha, may also benefit from mastering this job.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
