The Knight Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio is a defensive class that specializes in attracting aggro and protecting the party from enemy attacks. Here’s how to obtain Knight, as well as the more advanced Archetypes in its lineage.

• Knight: Default Archetype after recruiting Hulkenberg
• Magic Knight: Reach Rank 20 of Knight and Rank 10 of Mage; reach Rank 3 with Hulkenberg; 6750 MAG
• Paladin: Reach Rank 20 of Magic Knight; reach Rank 7 with Hulkenberg, 18,750 MAG
• Dark Knight: Reach Rank 20 of Magic Knight and Rank 10 of WIzard; reach Rank 7 with Hulkenberg; 18,750 MAG
• Royal Knight: Reach Rank 20 of Paladin, Rank 15 of Dark Knight, Rank 15 of Elemental Master; reach Rank 8 with Hulkenberg; 30,000 MAG. This is an Archetype exclusive to Hulkenberg.

Knight is an Archetype that, surprisingly enough, requires you to dip into the Mage lineage as well for Magic Knight, Dark Knight, and Royal Knight. If you don’t want to waste time on manually levelling up the Mage Archetypes, you can use items like Hero’s Fruit to reach the required Rank.

What is the Knight good for?

Knight is a fantastic shield against enemies that deal single target attacks, and you can use them to protect the squishier members of your party. Skills a Knight learns include Knight’s Proclamation, First Aid, and Ironclad Bond. Paladin is good at healing and protecting against physical attacks. Its Revitalize 3 MP recovery passive is useful for magic users, so I recommend letting them swing through Paladin to pick that up if you have time or resources. Dark Knight is more magic-focused and it also learns Magic Counter. Royal Knight is, unsurprisingly, a combination of the two.

While there’s no rule stopping you from letting anyone research any Archetype, some characters are better suited for certain classes than others. In Knight’s case, Hulkenberg naturally excels in this Archetype. Basilio’s naturally high Endurance also makes him a good pick.
