How to Unlock Aponi the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo in FFVII Rebirth

Each region in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has a different Chocobo for players to unlock. The Cosmo Canyon region one happens to be perhaps the most annoying one to find since it requires players to complete a taxing stealth mission. Here’s how to get the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo Aponi in FFVII Rebirth.

Where do I find Aponi the Chocobo in Cosmo Canyon?

Once you arrive in Cosmo Canyon, immediately head along the linear path northeast to Kamaria’s Ranch. This is the Chocobo ranch for the region. Here you can start a side quest, which will lead you to Chocobo intel spot just north of the ranch. The spot is around a corner in a secluded area of the canyon.

Fortunately, the game marks the spot for you on the map, just like in our screenshot below.

How do I complete the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo Intel quest in FFVII Rebirth?

The goal when you get here is to complete the FFVII Rebirth Cosmo Canyon Chocobo stealth mission, which you’ve probably done before, by avoiding the gaze of the various Chocobos and making it to Aponi at the end. How it works is you have several mine carts scattered around. The goal is to push each mine cart as far as you can until you reach the next Chocobo.

Then, you want to use the cover of the mine cart to go to the other side and either continue pulling the mine cart or go to the next part. There are two sections where you need to pull the lever first to divert the tracks to the next spot to keep pushing the cart along, which can get tricky! However, checkpoints also tend to appear at these moments to help.

The final challenge involves a Chocobo right in front of the blue Chocobo we are trying to capture. You can grab some stones from nearby, which you first need to throw behind the yellow Chocobo to distract it and make it even easier to push the cart towards the blue one. Push the cart as far as you can, because I found Aponi is very observant and will notice if you make a move too quickly. Once you get to the blue one, use a stone and throw it behind this Chocobo to distract it. Then slowly make your way over to it and interact with it to instantly bond and unlock this companion. From here, you are then able to take on the Chocobo training courses if you want and continue the missions with Kamaria’s and her daughter. (There’s a great Yuffie weapon with the Shooting Star ability in it for you!)
