How to unlock Multiplayer in Rise of the Ronin

In Rise of the Ronin, multiplayer is centered around the game’s story missions. Unlocking multiplayer is easy: at the start of a mission players have the opportunity to either join an existing party or host their own. Alternatively, players can initiate multiplayer sessions directly from the Longhouse.

Here, they have the option to select any previously played mission. You can also set yourself “open” for co-op allowing other players to drop in when available.Regardless of the option you choose, once you’ve got your party together you simply play the mission as you would normally. The only difference is your co-op partner, or partners, will be along for the ride.

How does Multiplayer work in Rise of the Ronin?

Multiplayer in Rise of the Ronin is essentially a co-op experience for up to three players. You’ve got room for two companions to join you in these missions. But don’t fret if your friends aren’t available. Even when playing solo, you can still team up with AI-controlled allies.

Mix and match your squad by pairing AI companions with human players, ensuring you always have a full party, whether you’re adventuring alone or online. If you have co-op open and are using AI allies, they will automatically despawn as human players join. This way, you don’t have to worry about keeping a slot open.

Typically, you have the freedom to bring any AI companions along for your missions. However, certain missions may restrict access to specific characters based on their affiliations. Despite these occasional limitations, you can usually form a complete party of three using solely in-game AI companions.

Online multiplayer in Rise of the Ronin can be the difference between getting tossed around the room by a boss and effortlessly defeating them. Plus, whether you’re the host or the guest, there are rewards waiting for you. However, solo players will still benefit from strengthening the in-game bonds with their chosen companions.

Rise of the Ronin is available exclusively on the PS5.
