Fishing minigames are a staple of the RPGs genre, with games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Persona 4, and Final Fantasy XV trying their hand at them. While most stick to a couple of different pre-established formulas, some fishing minigames stand out among the crowd. Sea of Stars is a good example of a game with an engaging fishing minigame that is easy to pick up and tricky to master.
How to Fish in Sea of Stars
To start fishing in Sea of Stars, you will need to press the action button in front of a dock. There is no need to charge the strength of the throw, as it will always be at max. The bobber will fly in the air at full strength, and by pressing the button again it will fall to the water. You can use the shadow that the lure casts to predict where it will fall. That way it will be easy to aim for a particular cluster of fish.
When landing in the water, the bobber will make a splash and alert nearby fish towards the lure. This might make tricky aiming for a particular fish if they are too close together. Once the lure is in the water, moving the left stick will allow you to steer the bobber. When a fish bites, a water current will appear on screen. Holding the action button will reel the fish in. Using the left stick to keep the fish in that zone will make it so that the line won’t break while reeling.
Sometimes a fish will jump in the air. This is the perfect time to press the action button to stun the fish for a short period of time. During this period, fish won’t be able to fight back and will be at your mercy. Note that not all fish will jump in the air. Once you reach the dock you will have succeeded in your fishing endeavors. At this point, you can choose to fillet a fish for cooking materials, or return it to the water.
Each fishing zone or lake in the game includes a board with the silhouettes of all the fish available in it. It’s a feature ideal for completionists. Once you have caught a fish, the empty silhouette will be filled with its appearance and name.
Sea of Stars is now available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
