The Starfield Mantis puzzle is impossible to pass if you don’t have the correct solution. The secret floor challenge will leave you instantly dead with a single wrong step. However, the sneaky trap can be easily beaten if you know the correct path to take.
How do I solve the Mantis puzzle in Starfield?
In the mission “Mantis,” you are tasked with infiltrating a secret outpost on the Denebola planet. If you are like me, though, the quest comes to a screeching halt after you discover a mysterious floor puzzle at the bottom of the hideout. This is because if you step on the wrong tile, a row of level 45 turrets will drop down from the ceiling and eviscerate you! Thankfully, the puzzle has a simple solution to avoid death.
To solve the Mantis Puzzle in Starfield, you need to walk on the tiles that spell out the word “TYRANNIS.” Although you don’t need the item, the solution is revealed after you pick up a Leon Voclain slate from one of the enemies in the outpost. Before you attempt the puzzle, though, you may want to send your companion away so they don’t accidentally trigger the turrets.
Below are the exact steps you need to take to solve the Mantis Puzzle in Starfield, as well as an image showing the path you need to take.
- Row 1: T (third tile from the left)
- Row 2: Y (first tile in the row from the left)
- Row 3: R (fifth tile from the left)
- Row 4: A (sixth tile from the left)
- Row 5: N (fourth tile from the left)
- Row 6: N (seventh tile from the left)
- Row 7: I (second tile from the left)
- Row 8: S (third title from the left)
The puzzle is really sensitive, so I also recommend you use your Starfield Weapon in first-person mode. While using the FPS camera, you can look down at the ground as you walk to verify that you are passing through the correct tiles.
What are the Mantis puzzle rewards in Starfield?
The Mantis puzzle is worth completing, as you are given the “Razorleaf” ship for free. The spacecraft has 420 cargo capacity and a powerful set of weapons. The quest also gives you a full set of Mantis armor, which is one of the best spacesuits in the game. Plus, you totally look like a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter with it equipped!
If you have invested enough in the Security Starfield Skill, you can actually bypass the Mantis puzzle altogether. At the entrance of the floor challenge is a computer that can be hacked into. If you manage to crack the PC, you can then deactivate the turret!
Starfield is available now on the the Xbox Series X and PC.
