Adding to the list of the many vague puzzles in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the one players encounter in the Thorm Mausoleum in Act 2. When you visit this spooky place, you are immediately met with a strange puzzle room at the end of the first area where there is no apparent way forward. Here’s what you should do to solve the Thorm Mausoleum button puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Solve the Thorm Mausoleum Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3
To start, there are three large portraits in this room in Baldur’s Gate 3. The only hint you get is from a nearby book that notes you need to go from “splendor to tragedy to infamy.” It is basically telling you the exact order in which you need to push the three buttons under the paintings.
Here is the exact order you need to press the buttons if you want to proceed further into the Mausoleum:
- Moonrise Towers painting
- Thorm mourning over his dead wife portrait
- General Thorm portrait
The first represents the splendor of the Moonrise Towers before tragedy would strike with the loss of his wife. This inevitably turned Ketheric Thorm into the monstrous general he is. Once you press them in the correct order, you can move on to the Gauntlet of Shar area and its own puzzles.
If you happen to press the buttons at random and mess up, the hidden trap will activate. This will cause a massive fog to appear in the area and anyone within it becomes blinded temporarily.
This can be quite frustrating, especially since there are several enemies waiting for you soon after opening up the secret door and proceeding to the Gauntlet of Shar area. Make sure to get this right on the first try to avoid this problem.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PCs and will release for the PS5 on September 6, 2023.
