Sometimes a Unicorn Overlord Side Quest won’t be immediately obvious and you need to do some overworld investigation, and the Bastorias “The Kingdom of Gordonia” orphanage quest is one of them. If you don’t talk to a little cat child named Lou, you’ll never get a chance to liberate Silphakom Town and Lornivisch Harbor.
How do I save the Bastoritza orphanage in “The Kingdom of Gordonia” in Unicorn Overlord?
Editor’s Note: There will be Unicorn Overlord spoilers below.
So this quest doesn’t obviously show something is going on with an exclamation point over a character’s head on the world map. Rather, you’ll see a small cat child in front of a soldier on the world map in Bastorias near Silphakom Town. (That’s the orphanage.) You need to speak to the child, named Lou, to find out what is going on. Lou explains that building is an orphanage run by Mutsin, his adopted father. Mutsin disappeared, the orphanage is locked, and he is very worried about what could be going on. You’ll then get “The Kingdom of Gordonia” Side Quest in your Unicorn Overlord quest log.
Alain will say he’s going to talk to people in the nearby Lornivisch Harbor for information. Again, there will be no exclamation points, so this again comes down to talking to everyone. However, in this case you need to speak to people in a particular order. This is because you need to get a password for a mercenary.
Here’s the list of who to approach in what order.
- Goat Bestral to the northeast of town.
- Sandro the owl near the lighthouse south of town.
- The Information Broker to the west of Sandro and south of town. You need 1,000G to get the password “Bascaria”
- The human Mercenary to the west of town. Give the password “Bascaria” to progress the quest.
Here’s a screenshot I took with numbers next to each NPC you must speak to, to help you better recognize them.
After that, head to Lou’s cabin to the north of the orphanage and town, where he said he’d be waiting. This is because you need the key to get in. He won’t be there, but footprints will appear to the northeast. Follow those for a scripted event that offers more insight into what is going on.
Now that you have the orphanage key in Unicorn Overlord, head back there. You’ll see a story segment with Alain, Yunifi, and Beaumont. Beaumont had been disguising himself as “Gordon” after the upset in Cornia, and now he’s shipping off orphans from Bastoritza to be used as slaves.
Okay. So. “The Kingdom of Gordonia” is a pretty tough battle in Unicorn Overlord due to the time restrictions and it being enemy level 26. There are two parts. You first need to take control of Lornivisch Harbor to save the orphans, then get to the opposite side of the map to stop Beaumont from escaping. The good news is, it is at night! This means bestral units will move faster.
Here’s my recommendation. Send a unit with Dinah as the leader and a cavalry unit up toward the town. The speed boosts from both should allow you to reach the harbor in time to stop the boat and save the kids. (It also isn’t the worst idea to have a unit with Cecilia or Fran in it use Hastened Call or Hastened Call II to speed things up.) By this point, you probably should have Alain as an upgraded cavalry unit leading another unit. Keep him in reserve, and save at least one Valor point during this assault.
Once the kids are saved, Beaumont and his crew will make a run for the border to escape. Use that Valor point to deploy Alain and send him after. If you have enough Valor points and another cavalry unit is with him, it isn’t a bad time to use Wild Rush.
You don’t unlock a playable character via completing this specific quest. It’s mainly about tying up loose ends with Beaumont and reclaiming part of the region. Sandro didn’t join my group immediately after, at least. However, you get a Helix Spear, Wooly Mittens, a Healing Tonic, and the Frostkraken Pirates insignia for beating Beaumont.
Unicorn Overlord is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
