How to Recycle in Moonstone Island

The ability to recycle is a new addition to Moonstone Island as part of the latest update, which also brings festivals to the game. This allows you to turn items back into their constituent parts, which can be useful if you want to get rid of some items and also obtain some materials quickly.

How to Obtain the Recycler in Moonstone Island

You will only gain the ability to recycle once you’ve completed one of the festivals in the new Moonstone Island update. You’ll need to participate in the Lunar Festival, which features a meteor shower where you can wish on falling stars. While the primary goal of this festival is to gather Moonstones, the first time you complete it you will unlock the Recycler.

The Lunar Festival takes place on Summer 21 at 20:00. Simply head down to the beach and step onto the pier. You’ll switch to a scene where all the villagers are gathered on the pier, waiting for the show. Select who you’d love to accompany you at the meteor shower, and it will begin. During the event, you can obtain Moonstones by pressing the interact button every time a meteor with an aura appears.

No matter how many falling stars you catch during the festival, Zed will be inspired the next morning to make a new machine. He will send it to you immediately when you leave your house after waking up. This is how you obtain the blueprint for Recycler, although now you will need to craft it.

How to Use the Recycler

The Recycler works like a lot of other crafting tables and machines in Moonstone Island. Its purpose is to separate items into their original parts.

To craft a Recycler, you’ll need a Moonstone Enchanter, which hopefully you’ll already have for items like the Spirit Barn. Open up the Moonstone Enchanter menu and you’ll find the Recycler near the bottom of the list. To craft it, you’ll need 5 Wood, 3 Iron Ingots and 1 Moonstone Ingot. You’ll need a Furnace to craft the Ingots from Iron Ore and Moonstone. Once you’ve crafted the Recycler, you can place it like any other crafting machine.

To use the Recycler, you simply need to select whichever item you’d like to drop into the machine to separate into its parts. Helpfully, when you hover over the items in your inventory, a tray will show up to indicate what items you’ll receive by placing it in the Recycler. Anything that can’t be recycled, which includes most crops and raw materials, will not show anything. Selecting these items will also do nothing.

The recycling process is instant. Once you select an item, it’ll be removed from your inventory and replaced with the materials. Ideally, you want to make sure you are selecting the correct item ahead of time. If you do accidentally recycle the wrong item, you will have to recraft the item with the materials you just obtained. Unfortunately, here is no way to undo the recycling process directly.

Moonstone Island is out now for PC and Switch.
