Ahead of launch, Atlus and Vanillaware noted Melisandre was a character players could recruit in Unicorn Overlord. However, actually getting her on your side is a little more difficult than some other allies, since you need to perform certain actions before and during battle to get her to side with you.
How do I recruit Melisandre in Unicorn Overlord?
Melisandre is waiting in the northeast of Cornia near Saint le Riche Town. You won’t be able to head north of Eucuit to it until you’ve progressed the main story and rescued the priestess Scarlett.
The first thing I suggest you do when you are in the area is, before you trigger the fight with Melisandre, head to the outpost to the west. It’s the garrison mentioned. If you have Alain approach it, there is an option to bolt it shut. Do so, and you’ll keep extra units from joining her later in the fight.
Now that you’ve done that, go ahead and start the “Blade of House Meillet” quest. After seeing some story segments, Melisandre says she’s going to go see Alain. You’ll then witness an overworld story segment in which she comes to greet you. Choose to have Alain “announce” himself.
Once the fight actually begins, make sure Alain is in one of the units deployed. Now, when I was in this battle, I had his unit directly face three enemies. Two of those times, Melisandre commented on it. So I recommend doing that, as she did join me by the end.
Also, as you approach her base, you’ll also see a message noting she couldn’t call in support from the ruins if you chose to lock the gate like I suggested.
You can have any unit you like actually defeat Melisandre. I chose to have Alain’s do so in order to see the in-battle commentary between them. After the fight is done, you get an option to recruit or execute her. Choose to recruit her.
You then get her as an ally, a Black-Iron Sword, a Camping Set (S), and a House Meillet badge for winning.
