If one gameplay mechanic defined the Atelier series, it would be its synthesis system. You will often need to create unique items from your collected materials to progress through the story. But as you can imagine, many of the items you make in the early hours will not be as useful later down the line. Fortunately, you can rebuild items, but there are a few caveats you need to bear in mind. In this guide for Atelier Yumia, we will explain how you can unlock the rebuilding item skill and the possible roadblocks you may encounter.

How Do I Unlock the Rebuilding Item Skill in Atelier Yumia?
You can technically earn this skill very early on in your playthrough. Once you have created the Lethrune item, which is part of the main storyline, you will unlock the skill tree, which can be accessed by heading into the main menu.
In the skill tree, you can spend SP points you have collected to buy new abilities or perks in three categories: Synthesis, Exploration and Combat. You can earn SP points in various ways, such as activating shrines, repairing zip lines, or unlocking fast travel locations.

When you are ready to unlock the rebuilding item skill, head into the skill tree and enter the Synthesis section. As the skill tree breaks into different branches, you will need to purchase a skill beforehand. The first skill you will want to obtain will be “Quality Control”, which will cost you 200 SP. This perk will allow you to improve the quality of a synthesised item. You should now be able to purchase the next skill in the branch line, the “Item Rebuilding” skill, which will cost you 200 SP again.

How Do I Use The Rebuilding Item Skill in Atelier Yumia?
Now you’ve unlocked the rebuilding item skill, you’re ready to start using it. Head back to the Atelier base and head to the synthesis panel in the building. When you interact with the panel, you will have a new option: “Item Rebuilding”. When you have selected this, you will be presented with a list of items in your inventory that you can now rebuild.
The main catch when it comes to rebuilding items is you cannot replace items already added to a core or Alchemy Slot. For instance, let’s say you’ve placed an item on every Alchemy Slot for the “Effects Alchemy Core”. You would no longer be able to edit the Core or Alchemy Slots associated with it. However, you can add items to the “Traits Alchemy Core” and “Quality Alchemy Core.” This means some items will simply have a glass ceiling on how good they can become if you make them with weaker materials.
But if you create an item with good materials from the get go, you can continuously rebuild it to make it incredibly powerful. The same item can be rebuilt as often as you like, provided Alchemy Slots are still available.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is now available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
