Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is almost upon us, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have anything to do before the expansion comes out. From completing certain content to converting currency, there is quite a lot to do to prepare for FFXIV Dawntrail and the 7.0 patch.
Everything You Should Complete Before FFXIV Dawntrail and 7.0
Starting off, it goes without saying you need to complete Endwalker and all of the MSQ (Main Scenario Quests) in the 6.X patch series. If you aren’t level 90 and fully caught up with the story, the new lands of Tural will have to wait. But there is more content I recommend you complete as well, such as the three Alliance Raids. I get the feeling those Alliance Raids’ story could have a tiny bit to do with the new expansion.
In addition, there are other miscellaneous activities players should complete. Here is all of the content and objectives I recommend players to complete before Dawntrail early access begins on June 28, 2024:
- Catch up with the main story
- Complete the Endwalker Alliance Raids
- Complete FATEs in the Endwalker areas to unlock Bicolor Gemstones (these will be harder to find people to complete with when the new expansion drops)
- Collect Pictomancer-category gear ahead of time (Casting gear)
- Collect Viper-category gear (Scouting gear)
- Unlock and, hopefully, max out Endwalker Tribe Quests (these will help with leveling Viper and Pictomancer)
- Grab your first Wondrous Tails for the new expansion
- Farm crystals, clusters, and Aetheryte Tickets to make crafting and traveling easier
- Collect a lot of Grade X Materia for possible Materia Transmutation to immediately have Grade XI Materia (if it releases)
- Don’t collect any Tomestones from June 25-27, 2024. Save your weekly Tomestones allowance for the expansion to get as many as possible
- Crafters should go ahead and craft level 80 and 90 Casting and Scouting gear to sell to new Pictomancer and Viper players
- Play around with the Benchmark to know how the graphical update will affect your character and if you need to change it or not
- Figure out your new glamour for your character (you are traveling to a new region, after all!)
Convert FFXIV Tomestones and Scrips Before June 28, 2024
While I highly recommend completing the content above to prepare for FFXIV Dawntrail and the 7.0 update, this is not all you need to do. There is a massive change happening with the new expansion that has to do with the currency, including Tomestones and Scrips. Tomestones of Astronomy will be gone permanently with the new expansion. While you can still exchange Tomestones of Comedy and Causality, they won’t be used otherwise.
For crafters and gatherers, it is a similar situation for White and Yellow Scrips. They will also be unavailable with the new expansion. As such, you want to exchange all of your Scrips and Tomestones at the following locations before the expansion arrives, if possible:
- Tomestones: Auriana at Revenant’s Toll X: 22.7, Y: 6.7
- Scrips: Scrip Exchange at Revenant’s Toll X: 22.4, Y: 6.7
Final Fantasy XIV is available right now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Dawntrail expansion will release on July 2, 2024, following early access beginning on June 28, 2024.
