All the Mystery Crop Ingredients in Moonstone Island

Each season of recipes in the Moonstone Island Cookbook has a mystery recipe, where one of the ingredients is replaced with an “unknown crop”. However, it is possible to figure out what this is from the clues provided in the Cookbook.

For a start, the season is important to identifying the ingredient. The crop will always be one that grows in that specific season, which narrows down your options. In addition, each recipe has a short, one-line description underneath the ingredients. This description acts as a clue to which of that season’s crops you should be adding.

Here are all the clues:

  • Spring: Mystery Soup – “Spirit Boon”
  • Summer: Mystery Tart – “Teeny Tiny Tartlet”
  • Fall: Mystery Flan – “A Decorative Dessert”
  • Winter: Mystery Cookies – “Cozy Confectionery”

Spring and Summer are easy to figure out. Spiritbane grows on Dark islands in Spring, and sounds similar to the Spring clue, while Psychic Storms in Summer cause Tiny Flowers to grow.

Fall and Winter require a little extra thought to solve. Fall’s recipe needs something “decorative” and while there are a few candidates (e.g. Grumpkin, Plantern), the Flag Flower is the crop you need. It’s easily found on Water islands. Meanwhile, Winter’s recipe wants something “cozy”, like a warm fuzzy sweater, a hint to the Sweater Plant that grows on Fire islands.

In summary, here are the required ingredients for each of the mystery crop recipes:

  • Mystery Soup – 3 Spiritbane, 1 Rice, 1 Spirit Egg (any)
  • Mystery Tart – 3 Tiny Flower, 1 Dough, 1 Sugar
  • Mystery Flan – 5 Flag Flower, 1 Spirit Egg (any), 1 Sugar
  • Mystery Cookies – 3 Sweater Plant, 1 Dough, 1 Sugar

Also, make note of the number on the mystery crop. Even if you identify the right crop, putting the wrong quantity in the recipe will still cause it fail and produce a Dubious Dish.

All the Mystery Fish Ingredients in Moonstone Island

The fish recipes in Moonstone Island work similar to the seasonal recipes, only now you have to identify the mystery fish ingredient instead of a crop. Unlike crops, fish are available all year round, you just need to find where you can catch them.

Here are the clues for the fish:

  • Mystery Fried Rice – “The Eternal Struggle”
  • Mystery Dumplings – “Hop Along”
  • Mystery Tacos – “Corn-Based and Crescent-Shaped”

These clues are a little tougher than the crops. The Mystery Dumplings is possibly the easiest, as the clue suggests something that hops, and the Bunnyfish is the best fit. This can be found on Earth islands.

The Fried Rice fish can also be found on Earth islands, but this one requires a little extra knowledge. The final clue is a little misleading as only one half of it is relevant. Ignore the reference to corn and focus on the “crescent-shaped” description. This a reference to the Moonfish, which can be found on Water islands.

In summary, here are the required ingredients for the mystery fish recipes:

  • Mystery Fried Rice – 2 Sisyphish, 1 Rice, 1 Nimbus Plant (Spring crop, Electric islands)
  • Mystery Dumplings – 2 Bunnyfish, 1 Dough, 1 Flameroot (Summer crop, Fire islands)
  • Mystery Tacos – 3 Moonfish, 1 Dough, 1 Snowdrop Flower (Winter crop, Psychic Storm)

Moonstone Island is out now for PC and Nintendo Switch.
