Where do I first meet Dampe?

Before you can make the High-Teku Baba for the “Endless Stomach Automaton” side quest, you will need to meet Dampe, who will appear on the map after saving Hyrule Castle from the Still World.

There is a good chance you will stumble across Dampe while playing through the “Land of Goddesses” quest. However, if you have not encountered him, he can be found in the forest area northwest of the Hyrule Castle Town. Here is a screenshot of the location.

You will then find Dampe bickering with a crow, asking it to return the goods it has stolen from him. Unfortunately, the crow is ignorant of his request, and it will be down to you to get the goodies back. The best way to defeat the crow is to use a long-ranged echo like a Spear Moblin Lv.2. Dampe will thank you for intervening and ask you to visit him sometime.

How do I find Dampe’s Home?

Dampe quite literally lives in the middle of nowhere, and he is somewhat ambiguous when he explains where his house is, so it can be rather difficult to locate his home at first. He lives northeast of Hyrule Castle Town. A good way to find his home is by marking the location on the map by the side quests in the Adventure Log. Here is a screenshot of the exact location of his house on the map.

When you arrive at Dampe’s home, he will inform you he has been waiting for your arrival and give you 5 twisted pumpkins for helping him out earlier. He then informs you he has suffered an artistic block when making Automatons. You then offer to help him develop fresh ideas. He tells you he wants to create something that’s always jumping around and shooting hot smoke.

How do I beat the “Automaton Engineer Dampe” side quest

You must finish the “Automaton Engineer Dampe” side quest before taking on “Endless Stomach Automaton”, as after this, you will gain access to Dampe’s notebook, which is on the desk in his house.

For the “Automaton Engineer Dampe” side quest, will need the following two echoes:

  • Tektite Echo
  • Mothula Echo

You should have both if you have been collecting echoes while playing. But for whatever reason, if you do not have them, you can find Tektite at Hyrule Field and during the Zappy Shipwreck side quest. For Mothula, you should have no problem finding them at Gerudo Sanctum. When you’ve learned these two echoes, summon them on the metal panel in Dampe’s house, and this will complete the task, earning you the Techtite.

How do I beat the “Endless Stomach Automaton” side quest?

After you have followed the steps above, you can now take on the “Endless Stomach Automaton” side quest to make the High-Teku Baba. The quest can be activated by interacting with Dampe’s notebook on his desk.

For the “Endless Stomach Automaton” side quest, the following echo and item:

  • Deku Baba Lv.2 Echo
  • Steel Trap

To find Deku Baba Lv.2, you must head to the Faron Wetlands. If you have not yet reached this part of the map, you can utilise echoes that raise you upwards, like water blocks or Platboom. You will want to use these echoes to jump onto the big trees blocking your way, as there is no traditional pathway. We used a Ball-and-Chain Trooper echo to beat the Deku Baba Lv.2 monsters in this area.

The Steel Trap will require you to win at a small mini-game called Acorn Gathering. To take on this challenge, you will need to talk to a lad wearing a hat north of Gerudo Town. To win the Steel Trap, you must gather 16 Acorns in forty-seconds. It might sound tricky, but it is not as bad as it may seem. Before you start the game, equip the Frog Ring, allowing you to jump at a higher height. Below is the location you will need to head to.

When you start, there will be two acorns on the ground. Jump on the wall and collect the acorn before you. Keep walking left on the wall until you collect another 3. From here, leap off the wall and collect the acorn. Climb to the top of the platform in front of you, and there will be another one. Drop down on the other side of the platform, and there will be two acorns on the ground.

You will now be standing in front of a huge rock platform, and on the top is a single acorn. Use water blocks to reach the acorn at the top. Drop down behind the boulders and pick up the acorn. Jump over the boulders and collect the acorn on the right. You should see another acorn on the right, behind some more boulders. Return where you were and collect the last remaining acorns on the floor. We could do this within the thirty-second margin, so you should have plenty of time to spare.

Afterwards, return to Dampe’s house and place the Deku Baba Lv.2 on the metal platform. You will have to interact with Dampe and give over the Steel Trap. You will then complete the “Endless Stomach Automaton” side quest and be given the High-Teku Baba.
