A fan boat is one of the first contraptions you’ll need to build in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This makeshift vessel allows you to cross bodies of water that you wouldn’t normally be able to otherwise because of Link’s limited stamina. Here’s how to make one with the Ultrahand ability.
So, how do I craft a fan boat in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
You need two main materials to make a fan boat: logs (three is my preference) and a Fan Zonai Device. To get logs, chop nearby trees down with an axe. If you don’t have an axe, you can weld one together with a Tree Branch and a Stone using Link’s Fuse ability. For the fans, if there are none nearby, visit a Device Dispenser and trade Zonai Charges for at least one. I like to use two fans on a boat, but it’s up to you.
Once you have logs and at least two fans, use the Ultrahand ability to glue the logs together and create a raft. Then, using the same ability, place the Zonai Fans on the back of your newly-created raft, with the blades facing outward. If there’s a Sail nearby, you could attach that for aesthetics if you wanted to, but it doesn’t matter since you have the fans.
Finally, drag your fan boat onto the water, hop onto it, and smack the fans to activate them and propel your boat forward. Just be careful not to accidentally hit any of your logs or they’ll break. I found that out the hard way.
How do I control the direction of my fan boat in Tears of the Kingdom?
While you’ll only need to go forward most of the time when in your boat, if you want to change direction, you will need either a manual Guster Fan or a Korok-Frond Guster. Equip it as Link’s primary “weapon” and swipe it in the direction you want to go.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
