How to Join Ryujin Industries in Starfield

Much like in previous Bethesda games, Faction Questlines in Starfield are some of the most involved and lucrative content in the game, and Ryujin Industries is no different. Based in the cyberpunk-inspired city of Neon, Ryujin is an attractive option for those possessing sneaking and espionage skills, and lacking in scruples. If that tickles your fancy, then here’s how to join Ryujin Industries in Starfield.

Where to start “Back to the Grind” in Starfield

The quest to join Ryujin is called ‘Back to the Grind’ and you may have picked it up without realising, since all you need to do is walk by a Ryujin kiosk. While Ryujin is based in the city of Neon, their kiosks are in several major cities and you can pick up the quest as early as your first trip to New Atlantis. Simply take a transit car to the Commercial District and walk forward past the first pond and up to the second. There, in sight of the UC Distribution Centre and opposite Galbank, you can find a red kiosk with Ryujin’s logo on it, underneath some kind of rain shelter. The kiosk will periodically chime with recruitment messages, and just hearing one will add the quest to your log with its own symbol to mark it as a major faction quest.

The first step of the quest is to simply interact with said kiosk. You will be able to access a job application with several multiple choice questions. You can actually select anything here and still continue the questline, as a later dialogue will explain that the hiring algorithmn is simply approving any applicants for interview no matter their qualifications.

From there, you need to travel to the city of Neon in the Volii system. If you’re tracking the quest the marker will be easy enough to follow, but just in case: look to the bottom-right of Alpha Centauri, past the Olympus system. Once there, you can follow the linear path past security and into the city proper before taking an immediate left after loading in. Keep going forward from there, and you’ll find Ryujin’s headquarters. Take the elevator to the Operations level and talk to the secretary who will direct you to Imogene Salzo, the interviewer. The secretary gives you some rather labyrinthine instructions, but thanks to the magic of Starfield’s quest markers, you can just follow that down the corridor to your right and then take a left to find Salzo.

Salzo will actually comment on several things, like if you’re wearing a full spacesuit to the interview or if your application said you had a criminal record. But again, regardless of your answer she will hire you provisionally and give you your first job.

You’ll be sent to grab coffee for Salzo, which you can pick up at Terrabrew back in the streets of Neon. Follow your way back to the elevator and out of the Ryujin building. Follow the streets straight ahead until you find Terrabrew on your left. Inside you’ll be accosted by Tomo, the previous holder of your position in Ryujin, and you’ll be forced to either persuade or kill him. If you persuade him, he warns that you’ll likely be sent to deal with him later and asks that you remember he gave you a chance to talk before he attacked. Either way, you can then get the coffee from the barista and return to Imogene.

Returning to Salzo she announces that, whether you killed the ex-employee or not, your performance has impressed her and you’ve been promoted from coffee-runner to Operator. You’ll be taking on more important jobs from now on. Your last task is to deliver the coffee, which also makes for a fine time to meet the other important members of Ryujin Industries. Linden Calderi, Genevieve Monohan, Alexis Pryce and Camden Cho are in a meeting room just across from Salzo’s office, and once you’ve met them you can return to her to complete the quest. You’re now a member of Ryujin Industries and ready to start the second quest in the chain: “One Step Ahead.” A life of corporate espionage and dodgy dealings awaits.

Starfield is immediately available for PC and Xbox Series X.
