The ability to highlight items Baldur’s Gate has been an option since the original games, and is naturally something you can do in Baldur’s Gate 3. This helps you spot items you would otherwise miss due to just how lush the environments are, or if you happen to play on a small screen like the Steam Deck. Thankfully, it’s only one key press away!
How do you highlight items in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Players can highlight items in Baldur’s Gate 3 by pressing the Left Alt key. However, this can be rebound in your game settings. Simply press Escape to bring up the menu and navigate to Options, and from there go to Keybinds. You can also check what other commands or options are bound to specific keys if you forget what your controls are at any point while playing Baldur’s Gate 3.
As you can see below, pressing Left Alt will show all items on the ground. Items with red text means that the items will be marked as stolen. If you are in the view of any NPCs (which you can check by using Astarion’s Hide command or any character’s Hide command if they are a Rogue or any if its subsequent Subclasses), you will either lose rapport with said NPC or even be forced to engage in combat. So it’s best not to pick up these items if you’re not willing to deal with the consequences.
Item’s highlighted in white or a cream color are fine to pick up. This means that they don’t belong to anyone and are free to take. These same rules also apply to other items like chests and the like.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for the PC and will release for PS5 on September 6, 2023.
