How to Hide Your Helmet in WoW Retail and Classic

Fashion is important to many people in MMO’s, but it can be difficult or expensive to coordinate an outfit while levelling since you’ll be swapping equipment out regularly. So if you’ve got a powerful but ugly helmet, or simply want to see your character’s face, here’s how you can hide your helmet in both Classic and Retail versions of World of Warcraft.

How to Hide your Helmet and Cloak in WoW Classic

If you’re playing WoW Classic, hiding your helmet is simple. You just have to go into the ESC menu and select options, then interface and scroll down to the Show Helm checkbox. Un-check it to hide you helm, and you can also hide your cloak this way if you really don’t like the stubby little ones you get at low levels. Do note that other players can still see your helmet even with this option on, as it only works for you.

How to Hide your Helmet and Cloak in WoW Retail Version

For Retail WoW players, your method of hiding your helmet is slightly more involved but also has more options. You’ll need to use the Transmog system added a few expansions after launch to hide your helm, but it’s still not that complicated. You can find a transmogrifier in most capital cities by simply talking to a guard, but certain mounts like the Grand Expedition Yak also come with one as a ride-along. Talk to them to bring up the Transmog menu and select the equipment piece you want to alter, then select the appearance you want to change it to from the catalogue on the right. The hidden appearance option should be the very first in the list, or just after any favorite appearances you’ve bookmarked. You just need to click apply to finalize the change.

This also works for any other equipment pieces you wish to change, but remember that options other than hiding the piece will cost you a certain amount of gold. If you equip a different piece of equipment, you’ll also have to apply a transmog to it seperately, as the effect goes on to that individual piece of gear not the slot itself. If you decide you don’t like the appearance you’ve placed on a slot, you can also right click to clear a slot and revert it to the item’s original appearance. Happy Transmogging!
