In Dragon’s Dogma 2, healing your Pawns and your main character can be a bit confusing to understand at first. This guide will break down how to heal Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and explain how the Chirurgeon specialization works.
How to Heal in Dragon’s Dogma 2
There are four ways to heal Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2, which include: Mage Anodyne spell, Pawn with Chirurgeon Specialization, Sleeping at an Inn or Campfire, and Healing Items. However, having a Mage in your party that knows Anodyne is the best method, as the game limits how much health you can get back in battle due to a special HP bar mechanic.
The way HP works in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is you have a green bar of health at the bottom of your screen. As you take damage, that bar will turn grey, and you will have a limited time to heal that backup. If you fail to heal in time, your maximum health will shrink down. This is why items aren’t always ideal, and you really need to have a healer in your party.
Below are the steps on how to heal pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 with a Mage in your party:
- If your main character is a Mage, hold down “Triangle” (PlayStation) or “Y” Xbox to cast the Anodyne spell.
- Your character will cast out a green aura around your party, and any Pawn that steps inside of it will have their health bar filled back up.
- If your Arisen character is another class, then you need to hire a Mage Pawn at a Rift.
- During battle, press “left” on your D-pad for “help,” which will trigger your Mage Pawn to instantly heal you and your party.
As soon as the Anodyne Spell is cast, you and your Pawns will need to make sure to step into the green area to get healed. However, the spell will only heal up to where your current HP bar limit is at (the gray bar).
As mentioned above, there are a few other methods to heal Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2, such as the game’s Sleeping mechanic, the Pawn Chirurgeon Specialization, and more. I will further break down how each of these works in the section below:
Sleeping at Inn
The only way to get your health bar completely filled back up to 100% is to sleep in Dragon’s Dogma 2. So if you took damage in battle, and your HP bar now only fills up to 70%, you can get it restored back to its full points by sleeping at an Inn or Campfire. Even if you have a healing Mage and or health items, you will need to use the Sleep mechanic eventually, as your HP bar will always start to whittle down over time due to damage.
At the beginning of the game, you will find your first Inn at the makeshift “Border Camp” following the character creator tutorial. However, every major city or town will have an Inn, which can be found on your map as a bed icon. The only downside to this method is most Inn locations later in the game will cost you around 2,000 Gold to sleep. Admittedly, this is a lot of coin. However, you will also gain Pawn RC experience on top of your entire party being fully healed when using an Inn.
Setting up a Campfire
The other way to heal your Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is sleeping at a campfire, which has no financial cost. You don’t get the Pawn RC experience, but your health bar will be completely filled up to 100%. Pawn with Chirurgeon Specialization
Certain Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will have a “Specialization” which is a unique skill or trait. The new Chirurgeon Specialization is what you will want to use to heal your Pawns. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Chirurgeon enables your Pawn to use healing items on other members of your party. Basically, if a teammate takes damage, your Pawn will automatically kick in to heal if they have an item on hand to do so.
To get a Pawn with Chirurgeon, you will need to go to any Riftstone and look for one. Keep in mind, any class can have Chirurgeon. So if you want your Tank or Archer to run around healing as well, you can technically do that. However, I recommend pairing Chirurgeon with a Mage, so they can utilize both their Anodyne Spell and HP items. Below is an image that shows where you can find Chirurgeon on a Pawn you are trying to hire.
Health Items
You can also heal Pawns using Health Items in Dragon’s Dogma 2, although they are limited to much HP they can fill up. After the tutorial section of the game, you will be able to pick up random materials in the overworld. The game’s crafting system is called “combine” and you can make Health Potions by combining certain items together.
For example, the common “Greenwarish” plant will heal a small amount of HP if you consume it. However, if you combine it with an apple you can turn it into a Salubrious Draught, which will heal a “fair amount” of health to your Pawn. Below are the steps on how to make health items:
- Find crafting items in the overworld, such as Greenwarish, Apples, Grapes, or Quince.
- Pause your game and select the “Items” menu.
- Press “Square” (on PlayStation) or X (Xbox) to access the “Combine Menu.”
- Select a Greenwarish and then click Apple (or whatever item you have).
- You will then craft a health potion, which can be used in combat.
How to Revive a Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2
If your Pawn gets knocked down in combat, you can actually walk up and “revive” them by interacting with their body. You don’t need a spell or item to do this, as you just need to pick them before the timer runs out. However, if your Main Pawn ends up dying or falls into water you will need to re-summon them.
To Revive a Main Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to visit a Rifstone. Unlike other Pawns, you can actually revive your Main Pawn from death simply by touching a Rifstone. For most of the early game, you will likely end up visiting the Grand Riftstone of Vermund in Vernworth. However, you can touch any Riftstone in the map and instantly revive your Main Pawn.
Simply approach and interact with any Riftstone, and then your Main Pawn will automatically be revived. It’s really that simple, and you don’t need to do anything extra. Your Main Pawn will also be re-summoned to your party, so you will be good to go.
Those are the main healing methods in Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, the easiest way to heal a Pawn is to have a Mage in your party. If you made your Arisen character a Mage, then you are good to go! However, if you pick another class then I highly recommend you make your first hired Pawn a Mage.
Once you have a Mage in your party, it’s as simple as spamming “left” on your D-Pad during combat to get healing for you and your entire team. However, don’t forget to occasionally sleep at an Inn or Campfire, as you will eventually need to restore your Health Bar back to its full potential.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC.
