How to Get Two Primary Weapons in Modern Warfare 3

One of the most common perks players use in Call of Duty games like Modern Warfare 3 is Overkill, which lets you equip two primary weapons simultaneously. But the mechanic works a bit differently in MW3, so here’s what you need to know.

How to equip two Primary Weapons in MW3

In Call of Duty, the Overkill perk allows you to have two assault rifles in your loadout simultaneously or a sniper rifle and an AR, for instance. My favorite combination is having an assault rifle for longer ranges and an SMG for close-range combat. This is one of the most lucrative ways to battle in the multiplayer.

If you want to get two primary weapons in Modern Warfare 3, you will still need to get Overkill. While on the surface, it does seem similar to past games, in MW3, Overkill must be found first before you can use the hidden perk.

How to unlock the Overkill Perk in Modern Warfare 3

As you may know, perks are tied to equipment in this game, such as vests, gloves, and boots. The Overkill perk is no different, but the game does a pretty poor job clarifying which equipment gives you this perk. To unlock the Overkill in Modern Warfare 3, you’ll need either the Gunner Vest or Overkill Vest.

The latter makes sense, given the name, which grants players the ability to hold two primary weapons. But the Gunner one doesn’t make this clear at all, yet it also gives you this option. You can unlock these vests at level 20 for the Gunner Vest and level 50 for the Overkill Vest. I, personally, prefer the Overkill Vest for its extra perks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
