How to get the Quartz Charm in Super Mario RPG

The Quartz Charm is a powerful late-game accessory in Super Mario RPG. The boosts it gives are some of the most valuable in the game. While you have to wait until nearly the end of the game to get it, you’ll want to make it an early priority once you can.

You’ll get the Quartz Charm as a reward for defeating the 2D version of the secret boss Culex. You’ll want the Shiny Stone for that, but be prepared for a good fight. Even at level 30, Culex can really push your party to it’s limits.

Believe me though, the juice is certainly worth the squeeze when it comes to this accessory. I’d make plans to beat Culex as early as possible.

What to use the Quartz Charm for in Super Mario RPG

The description for the Quartz Charm reads, “Shining source of power!” This is accurate, as the accessory massively boosts your strength and defense. Both stats see a 50% increase with charm attached. This is incredibly potent, and to add some extra power the charm also prevents instant death attacks.

While you get the accessory so late, this boon is still incredibly valuable. There are a number of post-game encounters that the Quartz Charm can massively assist with. Boss rematches such as Johhny Jones and even the 3D version of Culex are much easier to manage with a Quartz Gem.

To power up even further, I recommend pairing the Quartz Gem with other powerful items such as the Lazy Shell. This combo in particular can make some of those post-game bosses almost trivial. But what good is an RPG if you can’t be crazy powerful by the end?

Super Mario RPG is now available on the Nintendo Switch.
