With the release of Patch 7, developer Larian Studios has set up Baldur’s Gate 3 for its future. Though mods already existed in the game, it is now easier than ever to both install and even create mods for this incredible RPG. This system works because of the new Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit and the ability to install mods within the game.
How to Download and Use the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit
The Toolkit is a new, separate application players can download for free on PC. If you want to pick up this free software yourself, head here. This program allows you to develop mods using the proprietary Larian Studios-created Osiris scripting language. Everything needed for mods is possible here from resolving build errors to basic debugging.
Perhaps the best and most important part of the Toolkit is you can upload the mods you make there to the BG3 servers themselves. This will make your mod officially available for players to download and install within the game client.
How to Install BG3 Mods Inside the Game
If you are like me and love installing mods but not necessarily making them, Patch 7 also includes some benefits for you as well. No longer do you have to go to external, third-party sites like Nexus Mods to find mods for your game. You can now install Baldur’s Gate 3 mods from within the game itself.
What you want to do is head to the main menu once you update to Patch 7 and you will see an in-game Mod Manager option now. This Mod Manager includes all of the mods that have been published through the Toolkit. You can instantly download and install these for your game. You can also freely enable and disable mods as you wish. This is especially nice for Steam Deck players like myself who don’t have to sift through the annoying folders.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available right now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
