How to Get Started in My Hero Ultra Rumble

In September 2023, Bandai Namco published My Hero Ultra Rumble, a half-MOBA half-battle royale featuring characters from the My Hero Academia anime. Upon beginning the game, players will be bombarded with abilities, menus, missions, and other elements. While this may seem overwhelming at first, this guide will help newcomers better understand the basic gameplay, the many currencies used, and the missions offered in my My Hero Ultra Rumble.

How does My Hero Ultra Rumble work?

As stated above, My Hero Ultra Rumble is a battle royale with strong MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) elements. Eight teams of three are thrown into a shrinking arena and must battle it out until only one of them remains. Players can choose from both iconic heroes and villains from the anime, each having their own unique abilities in battle.

There are two elements that set My Hero Ultra Rumble apart from the standard battle royale. One is skill cards, which can be used to upgrade your abilities. The other is revive cards, which can be utilized to revive fallen teammates. As with all battle royale games, there is a ranked mode and a leaderboard to chronicle the most successful players.

Don’t forget to consider joining Agencies:

Agencies are groups of up to ten that players can form with one another. When players join these agencies, they will collectively earn agency points. These can be used to earn various rewards such as experience, gold, and increased ranking. Given this, joining an agency is an important tool for climbing up in the ranks in My Hero Ultra Rumble.

Make sure to get Licenses and complete Missions and Events:

My Hero Ultra Rumble features many different reward systems throughout the game. Missions are daily, weekly, and even seasonal tasks to keep players busy. The majority are simple quests such as deal x amount of damage or win x amount of games. Rewards include gallery pieces as well as skins and other items.

The “License” feature is a series of rewards granted to players as they continue to gain experience in their game. In comparison, the “Pro License” can be purchased using Hero Crystals. However, you can gain additional rewards with the purchasable version.

Keep track of the in-game My Hero Ultra Rumble currencies:

As with many online games, My Hero Ultra Rumble comes with an array of different in-game currencies for players to earn and spend. Here is a list of the main currencies you should know:

  • Gold: The most standard currency earned through gameplay. It is used for purchasing skins, gallery pieces, banners, emotes, and other items.
  • Hero Crystals: These are essentially the “V-Bucks” of My Hero Ultra Rumble. They are bought using real-world money and can be used to purchase the Pro License, Roll Tickets, and random item rolls.
  • Roll Tickets: These are earned through gameplay, with better-performing players earning more. Roll Tickets, along with Hero Crystals, can be used to purchase random loot, such as skins and voice lines within the roll section.

The Gallery is a collection of murals that players can slowly unlock by collecting gallery pieces. These feature artwork and screenshots from the anime.

As My Hero Ultra Rumble is a new game, additional features will inevitably be added in the following months. However, hopefully my tips and walkthrough will get you newcomers on your feet.

My Hero Ultra Rumble is available for the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
