One of the best surprises in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the ability to unlock a permanent Quasit Familiar known as Shovel. This is a permanent Familiar that anyone is able to learn the spell to summon in the game, even if you aren’t a Wizard or magical class in the first place. But you have to follow some specific steps first.
Where to get Shovel the Quasit familiar in Baldur’s Gate 3
To find the Shovel Quasit Familiar in Baldur’s Gate 3, start by heading to the Blighted Village west of the Emerald Grove. Follow the Necromancy of Thay side quest and enter the basement of the house to the south of the waypoint. Once you pass through the talking door where you can find the Necromancy of Thay book, you want to find the casket in the same area.
Here’s a map of the area:
Open up this casket and you’ll get the Scroll of Summon Quasit. This is a pretty understandable scroll, which lets the Wizard learn how to summon this particular type of Familiar. However, there is a way for any class to permanently learn this spell, which requires you to save beforehand. In fact, you can even have two people learn from this scroll.
If you want two characters to learn from the scroll, first have Gale talk to Shovel the Quasit through the scroll and pick the first conversation option. After that, have him leave the conversation. From there, have your character or any other one talk to Shovel in the scroll. The only requirement is to have at least one level in Wizard. You can even respec before and after using Withers at your camp so you don’t have to stay Wizard.
While speaking with Shovel, use the following conversation options in the chat: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, and 1. Pass through the talking mirror if you have not already and talk to Shovel there again. After this, you’ll officially learn the Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit spell. As noted by PuppeTears on Reddit, this spell works even if you switch to another class besides Wizard.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for the PS5 and PC. It will also release for the Xbox Series X/S later in 2023.
