How to Get Shadeling in Moonstone Island

Shadeling is a new Spirit added to Moonstone Island as part of the festival update. However, the way you obtain this Spirit is unlike any other in the game, so it’s easy to miss.

Where to Find Shadeling in Moonstone Island

Shadeling is a Psychic Spirit in Moonstone Island. However, do not waste time trying to find it during Psychic Storms. It will not show up, as it can only be obtained with an egg. Beyond that, the egg can only be obtained in a unique way. Remember, this Spirit was added alongside the new festivals, so the method of obtaining it is directly tied to those events.

With the new update, each season gets its own festival along with the one that was already in Winter since the game’s launch. For Spring, you can take part in the Spring Spirit Festival, which happens on Spring 21 at 20:00 in the hot spring on the east side of Moonstone Island. Take an item crafted using Moonstones (I used a Beacon) and hand it over as an offering to the large Spirit that emerges from the water. If you offer the right item, the large Spirit will be pleased and smile as it dips back into the spring.

The next morning, retrieve the Special Egg from the Community Chest in Rowan’s shop, and place it in a Nest in your Spirit Barn. After a few days, it will hatch into a Shadeling, and should also come ready with a bunch of upgrade points.

What Skills Does Shadeling Have?

Shadeling is a decent Psychic Spirit, although its initial abilities aren’t that great. However, when it hatches, it can be leveled up immediately. I was fortunate enough to unlock it with the Enlightenment card, which doubles your Energy in battle. With the right combination of other Psychic cards later, this could wreak havoc on your opponents.

For example, if you can stack a bunch of Energy boosting cards, these typically cost little to nothing to use. This will help you amass a large amount of Energy quickly. If you have cards that allow you to draw more, it increases the chance of drawing more Energy cards and also an Enlightenment. If you’ve built up a significant amount of Energy, you can instantly double it with this card, and immediately use that Energy to throw out a barrage of attacks against your opponent.

Its passive ability, Ancient Aura, is a useful one to have, but only if you’re hunting for specific Spirits. When it’s following you, only Psychic Spirits will show up during storms. This is incredibly useful as the storms take place in limited time, and the presence of other types can make the experience frustrating. With Shadeling’s ability, this erases the problem entirely.

Sadly, this passive ability only has this single use. With other Psychic Spirits offering much better combat options, you’d be better off picking a different one for this purpose. However, if you want a Spirit who looks cute while it follows you around, this one has you covered.

Moonstone Island is out now for PC and Switch.
